As you may know by now I tend to spend a lot of my free time scrolling through various design elements simply because there are far worse ways to spend your free time. Something that has recently come onto my radar is the beautiful handiwork Japan’s Truck Furniture. Their main focus is creating a beautiful selection of furniture in Japan, the design of such is casual, understated and functional and given all the Christmas clutter around at the moment, their simplicity and lightness of touch is pretty refreshing.

I suppose we all have something we are on the lookout for to add that unique layer to our own living space. I’ve been looking for the perfect shelving and storage for years, given that I have a limited living space and I think their Solid Oak Shelving and storage boxes would look pretty decent in my rather small room.

Because not all of us can fly over to Osaka do a bit of furniture shopping, the husband & wife team that run Truck; Tokuhiko Kise and Hiromi Karatsu have released a brilliant tome documenting their personal journey in planning and constructing a house, workshop and store from which they could both live and work comfortably from, with their family. When the family consists of a daughter, five dogs and eight cats, that’s a lot of space required to construct the fitting nest. The book is written in both Japanese and English, and consists of a ton of amazing photographs chronicling their endeavours. Considering that Tokuhiko Kise made his first piece of furniture using scraps of wood from a garbage bin, it’s been a fair and successful nine years which has seen him heading up a mini furniture, food and family empire.
